Intro
Blabla Sounds created the scores to the intro and the trailer of the webseries Self Made. We wanted to create an upbeat, cheerful and fierce vibe with a clear feminine touch. This way we could represent the positive and uplifting style of the series, which encourages people to believe in themselves and to follow their dreams, through the stories of female role models. The dreams and the hope that these entrepreneurs get from believing in themselves were captured in the sentimental string section. The feminine touch was represented by female vocals that harmonized together with the inspirational strings. The cheerful guitar and percussion made of bongos, finger snaps and shakers add to the upbeat and positive feeling you get from the women, their stories and edit of this show.
Moreover the interviewed changemakers tell about the challenges they faced and the hurdles they had to cross in order to get to where they are, which requires persistence and strength. We mostly captured this in the drum and bass section, which give a sturdy pace to power through challenges and glass ceilings.
Style wise, we were inspired by vintage funk and soul from Motown Records, as well as current artists like Lady Wray and Monophonics with a touch of contemporary pop from Lizzo. We love the badass rhythms and self-affirmative positivity of these records.
